The Energy Administration (EA), Ministry of Economic Affairs has long been devoted to energy education and the promotion of energy awareness. To raise the awareness of net-zero carbon reduction trends and energy transition, the EA has introduced the first picture book focusing on net-zero transition: Unexpected Museum Visitors – Across the Energy Universe. On May 19, the EA held a book launch party at The Red House in Taipei City, Director-General Yu Cheng-wei transformed into the Energy Wizard for the event to unveil the picture book. Director-General Yu mentioned that, by 2050, the children present will be the pillars of the country, and therefore, it is especially meaningful for them to read picture books about energy and understand net-zero transition. Following the launch, students from Nei-Hu Elementary School in Yunlin County performed a play based on the book's story, which was well-received by an audience of over 100 parents and children.

The EA noted that, energy education and the promotion of energy awareness were often hindered by energy issues' complexity in the past. Hence, in 2019, the EA attempted to present information in the form of picture book for the first time, publishing The Energy Wizard—the first picture book about energy. Staring in 2020, the EA integrated regional resources of storytelling volunteers from across Taiwan to hold story hours at 16 municipal library branches nationwide. Volunteers read and shared the energy picture book with parents and children, prompting a massive response and a positive reception. Riding this wave of success, the EA has now published its second energy-themed picture book, this time focusing on the net-zero transition, which symbolizes that Taiwan has taken its energy transition a step further toward net-zero transition. The EA hopes that by publishing this book, it can enhance the general public's understanding of energy and net-zero-related knowledge and increase support for the government’s net-zero transition policies.

The Energy Administration emphasized that today's book launch party is only the beginning. Starting in this June, interested readers of all ages will be able to borrow the book from all municipal libraries throughout Taiwan. Additionally, starting in July, volunteer storytellers are scheduled to appear at libraries in every region; through their efforts, children who enjoy this book will be able to hear the story read aloud. All families, parents and children, are invited to step into the world of energy picture books to learn more about energy and net-zero transition, and jointly support sustainable energy development and net-zero emissions targets.
